RE: Spelling Police!

You Alaska folks need to calm down……......we are only borrowing your governor. Y’all will get her back……………eventually. :) :) Brad In four or possibly eight years. :D Since she is so popular I hope she can return to you in Nov.!!:B By the way, why hasn't the spell checker been working? I'm getting tired hauling out the heavy dictionary, or is it dickchinary?!?:@

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

Mineral oil idea sounds interesting. May try it for the winter to help keep the evaporation down. I can't remember what my house batteries are - Trojans I think! They are now 3 years old and seem to be doing well. I would have preferred to have had 2 of the 6 volt golf cart batteries that I can get down here on the tide flats in Tacoma. I used them for my sailboat for years and they are tough. Had 4 of them for my house batteries and had over 600+ amp hours with them. Would have put them in when I got the Trojans, but the old house batteries went out in Park City MT. so didn't have much choice!! Hopefully, the orginal start battery will hold out until spring. What do all use for your start battery on a gas rig?

RE: Bank Repo Auctions - how do I find them?

Batts, See your in the northwest. Try the Boeing Credit Union site. They will list their repos, if they have any. Don't know the website. When we were looking, found that most of the regular auction places were for dealers only. I half-heartedly looked into getting a dealer license, but didn't follow through. I don't think it was too involved, but I really don't remember that much about the process!! Good luck

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

What do people think about SFS Aqua Shed Adco cover? It supposedly is for raining climates! Bob, I was wondering about the goo growing between the cover and the roof. I remember the battle I always had with mildew on my cockpit dodger on the sailboat and that was sumbrella - a never ending battle. That's why I finally put a hard fiberglass dodger on it!! I really would like to find a place where I could have power to the rig, but that seems like it may be a problem. There is only one place I have found so far in the Federal Way area that I could get power at and then its only 15 amp. Not sure how good the outlets are!! I could go up with my tester gizmo I guess and check them out! It would be nice to use a fan to keep air circulating. Linda - we're not called the Evergreen State because of amount of sunshine we get!!:B Thanks for all of the suggestions. If you think of anything else, send it on!

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

David, I plan on draining the water and tanks!! Didn't make that clear! I forgot about those Driz Air things. I used those on the boat as well. How many for a 33 footer? The more the better?!? I was afraid of the cover being a PITA. I also have a Wilson cell phone antenna on the roof that maybe a problem. I have to see if it unscrews from the mount and wire. Thanks

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

NEED HELP FROM YOU EXPERT NORTHWEST RVERS!!! As I mentioned in an earlier post, Carolyn & I are putting our fulltime travel plans on hold and we are in the process of moving into Carolyn's little rental house. Ours is still leased out!! Here's my problem - this will be the first time that I will have to "winterize" the rig for storing during the winter. I'm not overly concerned about draining the water and that sort of thing. From having lived aboard my sailboat for a number of years I know it is a real challenge to keep mildew and interior moisture under control. On the boat the key seemed to have a bit of fresh air under steady circulation. I would assume this is the same for an rv? I have found only one storage lot that has electrical access. Is this a necessity? I'm thinking that a fan and/or humidifier would be best to have, if possible. Any of you keep a cover over your rig for the winter? Carolyn would like to get one of the full covers for it. Do I or should I have one of those battery moniter/chargers installed to keep the batteries charged? I know that many/most of you are able to park your rig at home, but we don't have the room at the little place. We don't want to leave it in the second driveway at Carolyn's son and daughter-in-laws for the winter, where we have a 30 amp plug-in. Any suggestions are welcomed! Bigdog, certainly understand family coming before Cougar football!! So I won't give you that bad of a time for it!!:B

RE: Which of these options should I pay extra for?

Here's the questions I would ask: 1. Do you like or plan on doing a lot of boondocking? If so, the generator and inverter would certainly help and be of benefit. 2. Are you going to be in the southwest or other places that are really hot during the summers? If so, the bigger A/C's would be the way to go. 3. Are you going to stay primarily in full hookup parks? If so, the begger generator and inverter is probably overkill. I know that Onan techs say you have to make that generator work at least several times a month under load to keep it working well. In fact, at the '05 Rally in Redmond OR, they said that they aren't honoring warrenties if they haven't been run enough. They are like anything else, if its not used, its more harm than good. Only you know what type of RVing you do and to the type of camping and areas that you like to go out too. Good luck on your choice(s)!

RE: Sacramento area via I-5 to Portland/Seattle

I would agree with Beaverdance if you have the time. The coast drive, at least one direction, is very scenic. Any of the Oregon SP along the coast can't be beat and after Labor Day you shouldn't have any problem getting into them during the week. The weekends may still be a problem. I would HIGHLY recommend Rogue River SP at Rogue River Oregon, just north of Medford. It is just off I-5 and is a great park, especially for an easy on easy off stop over. Have a great trip.

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

Roger & Terri, congs on a great granddaughter! Sounds great, we have to wait, hopefully for a number of years, for a great grandchild!! Our oldest granddaughter is 15 1/2 and will be a sophmore this year. The problem is she is absolutely gorgous, but our son-in-law is a hunter, so has his supplies of weapons handy!!:B We had granddaughter #3 with us down at Long Beach for the kite festival. Our daughter-in-laws parents are very active kiters and we had a great time. The weather was absolutely great on Friday and Sat. but poured rain on Sunday. Rained everything out and the beach was basically empty by 11! Holed up in the rig and came back Monday. Because of the health of Carolyn's 95 year old mother, we are putting our fulltiming on the back burner for now. She doesn't want to be caught across the crountry if anything happens. We will start moving into Carolyn's little house that she has been using as a rental for the past number of years this next weekend. It will be strange not planning our next area of travel, but still have the "to visit" list handy! I will have to review my owners manuel for winterizing the rig! Will be searching out a place here in the Federal Way area to store the rig and yet have it handy for long weekend getaways. We will probably join the gang over in Yakima in May so we don't miss out on any good wine tasting. You guys may drink it all if we don't get there!!:B

RE: Oregon Coast - campgrounds - opinions on the following?

Second emay, but would add Newhalem. Excellent state park. Would highly recommend Ft. Stevens just outside of Astoria as well. One of our all time favorite parks. Make sure you make your reservations as soon as you can!! Those Oregon State Parks on the coast are in high demand during the summer! Good luck and enjoy some of the most fantastic coastal scenery you'll find.

RE: Road conditions

I-70 is no problem. We did 191 up through AZ and through Moab this past spring and I truly don't remember any stretch that you need to be concerned about. Rule of thumb, use the same gear going down a hill that you used getting up it. Its better to start slow and be downshifted at the top as you start your descend. Easier to speed up than to slow down!! We have a 33' with the 7.1 and towing a Saturn and we didn't have any problems. Stop at Hole in the Wall south of Moab. Pure Americana kitsch!! Also, if you like green chili, stop at the Moab Diner - its great stuff. Stopped in for it several times! Be sure to take in Capital Reef NP. The Fruita campground there is one of our favorites, a GREAT national park campground. Enjoy your trip, its a beautiful area.

RE: Big Bend National Park (SW Texas)

Why not Cottonwood campground inside the park? Stayed there 2 years ago and you should have no problem fitting in. Your from Texas, so you know that EVERYTHING is bigger there!!:B Your just really adding more miles and time by staying outside the park. We put on over 200 miles on the car one day just to get over to the other side!! Good luck

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

Hey, I could have scored some great bud for far less money than they were asking for the pants!!:B If that's all would take to get rid of this rain and thunder, I should have!!:B

RE: Northwest Spring Rally, May 15-17, 2009

Oh well Bigdog, that's what you get for being a cougar!! Man, am I tired of this rain. Had an interesting Sunday - took in hempfest and that was quite an experience!! Wanted to find some hemp pants, but their sizes sure didn't correspond to what I thought it should be!! They must have sized them after having a few brownies!! Not going to Westport, but we're leaving Thursday afternoon for Longbeach and the kite festival. Taking our soon to be 6 year old granddaughter down with us. Hope I can figure out how to get all of those funny strings untangled to fly my wing kite. May have to watch the video again! Everyone keep dry.

RE: retiring soon and need a winter destination

Arizona- Benson or Ajo Ajo has a delightful town plaza and 2 GREAT Mexican resturants on the north side of town. Benson - has Butterfield's RV Park & they have their own observatory which is really neat to go up to at night. However, you do have several trains a night that come roaring through town!! NM - Deming - neat little town but never seems to be warm enough for us in Jan & Feb.!! Maybe the elevation?!? Las Cruces may be too large for what your looking for but LaMesita just south is absolutely charming. Can't remember how close a rv park would be. TX - Hill Country I fell in love with. Fredricksburg, Luckenbach(with Willie & Wayon!!) Boerne, Canyon Lake. Probably just about any of the small towns in the hill country between San Antonio & Austin. Great scenery and lots of wineries to visit! Rockport & Port Aransas area & Padre Island, Galveston Island. Enjoy your visit!

Bigdog, I had my sick leave figured out to multiples of 4, so I had a number of short weeks the last year before I retired! It will go by fast. It was the 2nd. to last year that went by slowly for me!! Enjoy

RE: NW Mini-rally,Aug 8-9-10 '08

We got back today about 2:30 and the sun is shinning! This morning up at Point Hudson walking the dogs saw a sailboat from the yacht club we belonged to here in Tacoma. They were on their way south after being up in the islands and we got caught up news about other people in the club. Big thanks to John (even though he claims to be a cougar!) for coordinating everything. Your shrimp was really good Sat. as well. Gary's (Otto) claim chowder was really good as well. Carolyn and I used to go into the yearly Alzhiemers Chowder Off benefit at Lake Union that the resturants would participate in and his chowder ranks up there with the best we would get there. Bob (Tradewinds) snuck some of their Alaskan smoked salmon in behind my back, but I was able to spot it before it disappeared! That was very good as well. Actually, I didn't sample anything that didn't taste good. There were either a bunch of outstanding chefs in those rigs or it was the fresh salt air coming off of the straits! I was even able to remember a few of the faces with names, so maybe after a dozen or more of these get togethers, I'll get more of you connected!! Great time.

RE: No specific questions just ....

Deen, Have enjoyed reading your comments of the forums, NOW I can give you some of our feedback after traveling FT the past 3+ years!! We have been able to do it on far less than what you will have. Now, I am the first to admit that we don't live "high on the hog" and stay on a pretty firm budget. We prefer national & state parks and do a lot of boondocking. We use RPI & C2C along with Passport America as much as we can. We stay away from the "big rig" parks because I wouldn't call our Winnibago Brave a "big rig"!! I limit our dining out, as that can be a real budget buster for us. We find that we can get as good of a meal off the late lunch menu or get there for the early dinner specials. I think that it is with everything else. If you are used to a high standard of living (and with $6k retirement) you have done very well for yourself, you will still find ways to maintain close to your lifestyle. You should have no problem making it on that, unless diesel fuel hits $10+ a gallon and your crossing the country every 3 months!!:B

RE: Branson Only

What's the summer temps and humidity? Sounds like a great place to spend some extended time if the humidity isn't bad.
